Printing has been in the family since February 1901, when Wanfred W. Waterman began a seven year apprenticeship in Type Composing. Since then it has carried on down through the years, and is now in the fourth generation of the family.

Chapter 1
1901
Wanfred Wakefield Watermans Type Composing Apprenticeship started on the 1st of February 1901
Wanfred W. Waterman (yes that’s a real name) began a seven year apprenticeship in Type Composing.
1908
A copy of the Ballina Herald from the 6th of August 1927
Wanfred travelled from Aldershot in the UK to install a newspaper printing press in the Ballina Herald. Wanfred remained in Ballina afterwards and continued working for the Ballina Herald. He married a Cork woman (up the rebels!), Nora, and changed jobs to work at the Cork Constitution newspaper.
1923
Wanfred joined the Cork Examiner. His wife Nora died young and Wan had to work nights in the newspaper while also bringing up four children (three boys and a girl).
Chapter 2
Wanfred’s son John married Mary and they had six children (four boys and two girls).

1953
John and his brother opened Watermans Printers, based in the Shandon/North Mall area of Cork City. Later their other brother Bill joined them.

Wanfred and Carmel in the groovy 70’s.

Jon (Jonathan), Wan & Carmel eldest son joined Carraig Print.

1997
Carraig Print merged with Litho Press to become Carraig Print Litho Press and a second print shop in Midleton was opened.
